President Obama has faced several assassination threats so far in his presidency, but the most recent one is likely the most distressing. The threat originated from a domestic terrorist group operating within our own military. Four soldiers have been plotting to kill Obama, though specific details regarding their plot are currently unknown.
What we do know is that the soldiers purchased $87,000 worth of ammunition, including bomb making materials, and planned to used them against the President. Authorities accidentally unearthed the plot while investigating the murder of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, Tiffany York. The group, who called themselves "F.E.A.R.", allegedly killed Roark and York for not cooperating with their plan. Apparently, this wasn't a hack job either, since the plans that were uncovered contained sensitive information and clearly required extensive plotting.
"This domestic terrorist organization did not simply plan and talk," said prosecutor Isabel Pauley. "Prior to the murders in this case, the group took action. Evidence shows that group possessed the knowledge, the means and motive to carry out their plans."
The ringleader of the group, Pvt. Isaac Aguigui used $500,000 he received from insurance for the death of his pregnant wife to buy the necessary weapons for the plot. All four of the men have been denied bond, and are being held at Liberty Country Jail.
