Thomas Smith was no different, but what he did next was a first in the Appleby Bermuda Half Marathon Derby ... he proposed to his girlfriend Elizabeth Simmons.

Ms Simmons may have initially been at a loss for words but the women standing nearby were not about to let the romantic moment pass quietly their squeals brought scores of people running to see what was going on.

“We’ve been dating for about a year, friends for two and I just knew she was the one,” said Mr Smith, who planned the proposal about two months ago. Doing it on Bermuda Day had a special significance for him.

“My dad [Glenfield Smith’s] birthday is today and he passed away last year and I wanted to celebrate him as well. It is a gift to my daddy, he loved her. He passed away due to cancer and he ran about 13 of these races and this is my fifth one completed consecutively. I just thought to commemorate his life as well happy birthday daddy in heaven!”

Mr Smith had his plot all planned, he ran the entire 13.1 miles with the ring in a pouch around his waist.

Ms Simmons never suspected a thing as he walked towards her.

“It was just right. I was like ‘yeah, I’m going to propose to her on May 24th and I’m going to run with the ring’,” he said.

“I was trying not to think about it [during the race]. I was a little anxious, not because of the ring but just the race itself. I had been training really good and wanted to do well. I had the ring in the…

Witnesses have described two men hacking a man with cleavers before dragging his body into the middle of the street ‘like a piece of meat’.

In the video shown by ITV News during its 6.30 p.m. bulletin and later posted online, the man, wearing a grey hooded jacket and black woolly hat, apologizes to people who witnessed the attack.

"We must fight them as they fight us, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," he says to unseen bystanders, as other people stand around in the background.

"I apologize that women had to witness this today but in our land our women have to see the same."

The man, who speaks clear English without a hint of a foreign accent, adds: "You people will never be safe – remove your government, they don’t care about you."

He then walks back towards the victim lying prone in the street to talk to the second suspect.

Later footage shows the men also lying in the street after being shot by armed police called to the scene.

They are being treated in separate hospitals, with one suspect in a critical condition.

Home secretary Theresa May said: "It has been confirmed to me that a man has been brutally murdered this afternoon in south-east London. Two other men were shot by armed police and they are currently receiving treatment for their injuries."

As with anything else, you know the show wouldn't be right without them bringing up the lawsuit against K. Michelle. Memphitz goes right into it and says that K. Michelle is crazy and that she lied about the whole thing. Footage of K.
